INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

Several UN and International agencies are based in Thailand.

The United Nations Economic & Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UNESCAP) has its headquarters in Bangkok. The Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East (ECAFE), which was set up in 1946 in Shanghai moved to Bangkok in 1949. It was later renamed as UNESCAP in 1974.

Ambassador of India to Thailand is the Permanent Representative of India to the UNESCAP.

The UN building in Bangkok hosts offices of 13 UN agencies.

Among other international agencies in Thailand, where India is actively involved are the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre ( ADPC) and the Asian Institute of Technology ( AIT). Ambassador is a member of the Board of Trustees of both organizations.

Besides working to promote bilateral and regional cooperation, the Embassy of India in Bangkok is actively engaged in the work relating to UNESCAP and the other UN and international agencies.
