India also offers scholarships to Thai nationals through its Embassy in Bangkok. Every academic year (April-March), both long and short term scholarships are offered, details of which are given below:-

INDIAN TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC COOPERATION PROGRAMME (ITEC)

This Programme was launched in 1964 as a bilateral programme of assistance of the Government of India. The slots are offered to Thai officials for the short term training courses in Indian Institutes. The candidates are selected and nominated by the Thailand International Cooperation Development Agency, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Thai Government.

(The living allowance, book allowance and international airfare of the trainees under ITEC are borne by the Government of India.)

TECHNICAL COOPERATION SCHEME OF COLOMBO PLAN

The programme was started with a view to provide technical assistance to neighbouring Colombo Plan countries. The slots are offered to Thai officials for the training courses in Indian Institutes.

(The living allowance, book allowance and international airfare of the trainees under Colombo Plan are borne by the Government of India.)

HINDI SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are offered to Thai students desirous of studying Hindi certificate course at Central Institute of Hindi in Agra.

(This scholarship provides stipend, book allowance, international airfare, and hostel accommodation.)

  • 12 years of school or college education
  • within the age limit of 21-35 years
  • at least 1-2 years knowledge of Hindi

GENERAL CULTURAL SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME (GCSS)

Scholarships are offered to Thai students desirous of pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. studies in various courses in Indian universities, excluding the fields of medicine and dentistry.

(The living allowance, contingent grant, tuition fees, accommodation and medical expenses of the GCSS scholars are borne by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Government of India. However, for Science Courses, the expenditure on laboratory chemicals and other related incidental charges will be borne by the scholars.)

MEKONG-GANGA COOPERATION SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME (MGC)

Scholarships are offered to students of Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC) member countries desirous of studying undergraduate and postgraduate courses in culture-related subjects, such as ancient history of Mekong-Ganga Cooperation countries and Buddhism, Sanskrit, Pali, dance, preservation of manuscripts, archaeology, handicrafts, museology, etc. including in the area of contemporary relevance such as IT and vocational training in Indian universities can apply for scholarships under this scheme.

(Terms and conditions are the same as in GCSS. Besides, return economy class international airfare and 3rd class AC train fare to the place of study are also provided to scholars under this scheme.)

Scheme

Scholarships are offered to Thai students for Post-Graduate courses only in various courses excluding medicine and dentistry.

7.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR COURSES IN TRADITIONAL SYSTEMS OF MEDICINE (AYUSH)

Scholarships are offered to students of BIMSTEC countries
for undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. courses in traditional systems of medicine such as Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy.

(Terms and Conditions are the same as in GCSS and CEP)

For ITEC and TCS of Colombo Plan at S. No. 1-2, interested officials may contact the Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency, which is the nodal agency in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Thai Government (Tel. No. 02-2035000 ext. 43102).

For Hindi Scholarship at S. No. 3, interested students may obtain more information and application form from the Education Officer, Embassy of India, Bangkok.

For ICCR Scholarships Schemes at S. No. 4-7, interested students may obtain more information and download the application form from the ICCR's site: www.iccrindia.net : from the Education Officer, Embassy of India (Tel. No. 02-2580300-5 ext. 139). The completed application forms shall be submitted at the Embassy.
